For 70 years and seven months, Queen Elizabeth II was the longest-reigning monarch in British history. She and her husband, Prince Phillip, had four sons together. Throughout her reign, her family continued to grow as her sons, nephews, and nieces had families of their own.

Charles, Prince of Wales

Born in 1948, the first in the line to the throne is Charles, Prince of Wales. In 1981, the prince married Lady Diana Spencer, and they had two sons, William and Harry. Prince Charles married Camilla Parker Bowles, the Duchess of Cornwall, in 2006.

Charles will become the King on Saturday, May 6, 2023. Queen Elizabeth recently noted that she would like Camilla to hold the title “queen consort,” meaning she and Charles would hold the same regal titles.

Prince William, Duke of Cambridge

Born in 1982, Prince William is the eldest son of Prince Charles and Princess Diana, making him second in line to the crown. William has performed royal duties on behalf of Queen Elizabeth since he was 21 when he was appointed a Counselor of State. His marriage with Kate Middleton was a worldwide affair that granted them the titles of Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, respectively.

Prince George of Cambridge

Born in 2013, as the oldest of William and Kate’s children, Prince George takes priority over Prince Harry in the line of succession. Because of this, he has a high chance of becoming the head of the British monarchy in the future. Despite his young age, Prince George has influenced fashion trends for children. An article from Vogue pointed out that anything he wears leads to a sharp increase in demand for those items.

Princess Charlotte of Cambridge

Born in 2015, and named after both her great-grandmother and her grandmother, Charlotte Elizabeth Diana is fourth in line to the British throne. Thanks to the Perth Agreement, she’s also the first female to not be moved down the line of succession. Like Prince George, Princess Charlotte has also influenced children’s fashion, as well as toys and games. As a result, she has the highest net worth in the entire royal family at nearly $5 billion.

Prince Louis of Cambridge

Born in 2018, the youngest child of William and the Duchess of Cambridge, Louis Arthur Charles is fifth in line to the throne. His rank in the line of succession is part of a conscious effort by the royals to overwrite archaic systems in the name of progress and equality for women.

Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex

Born in 1984, with the birth of each of his nieces and nephews, Prince Harry continues to fall down the line of succession. However, as of 2022, being the youngest son of Diana and Charles places him in the sixth spot in the line to the throne. While Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, have stepped away from their royal duties, this does not result in them losing their status as successors.

Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor

Born in 2019, Queen Elizabeth’s eighth great-grandchild, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, is seventh in line to the throne. While he would normally be granted his father’s hereditary title — Earl of Dumbarton — his parents instead chose a less traditional royal name.

Lilibet Mountbatten-Windsor

Born in 2021, as Harry and Meghan’s youngest daughter, Lilibet Mountbatten-Windsor has the eighth place in the path to the throne. Her name honors her grandmother and great-grandmother. However, rather than the more traditional “Elizabeth,” her parents borrowed the Queen’s childhood nickname, Lilibet.

Prince Andrew, Duke of York

Born in 1960, Prince Andrew is the third child between the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh. He took his royal title after marrying Sarah Ferguson in 1986. They had two daughters before separating in 1992 and divorcing in 1996. Following a number of controversies in 2019, the Duke of York stepped back from his royal duties. In the following years, he has been stripped of many of his royal titles and duties, though he remains in the line of succession.

Princess Beatrice

Born in 1988, as the elder daughter of Prince Andrew and the Duchess of York, Princess Beatrice is 10th in line for the crown. She married Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi in 2020. They had a daughter in 2021, Sienna Elizabeth. Like many royals, she has no official surname and often uses the name “York.”

Sienna Mapelli Mozzi

Born in 2021, Princess Beatrice’s first child is 11th in line for the throne. She is the Queen’s 12th great-grandchild.

Princess Eugenie

Princess Eugenie possesses the 12th place in the line of succession as the younger daughter of Prince Andrew and Duchess Sarah. She married her long-term boyfriend, Jack Brooksbank, in 2018 and had a son in 2021. Eugenie has a bachelor's degree in English literature and history of art. She also works with many charitable organizations.

August Philip Hawke Brooksbank

Born in 2021, the son of Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank. He is Queen Elizabeth’s ninth great-grandchild.

Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex

Born in 1964, the youngest of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Phillip’s children, Prince Edward married Sophie Rhys-Jones in 1999, granting him the title of Earl of Wessex and Viscount Severn. He also holds the title of Earl of Forfar. The prince formed a TV production company but later stepped down in 2002. He currently assists the Queen in her official duties, as well as working with over 70 charities and organizations.

James, Viscount Severn

Born in 2007, the younger child of Prince Edward and the Countess of Wessex, James did not receive the traditional title of “prince” from his parents. He received a courtesy title, Viscount Severn, instead of "prince." Some people feel that this was to help avoid the potential burden of the royal titles.

Lady Louise Windsor

Born in 2003, the older sister of James and 16th in the line of succession. Despite being older, Lady Louise falls behind her brother in the line for the throne because she was born before The Perth Agreement.

Anne, Princess Royal

Born in 1950, the Princess Royal is the Queen's second child and her only daughter. Princess Anne was the first to use the Mountbatten-Windsor surname in an official document, doing so when signing her marriage certificate with Captain Mark Phillips. After being born, she was third in the line for the throne but has since moved to 17th place. The Princess is also a patron of over 300 organizations, and her work earned her a Nobel Peace Prize nomination in 1990.

Peter Phillips

Born in 1977, Peter Phillips is Princess Anne’s son, making him the eldest of Queen Elizabeth’s grandchildren. Peter married Autumn Kelly in 2008. The couple had two daughters before divorcing in 2020. Because he is a child of the Princess Royal, he did not receive a royal title due to being a descendant of the female line. While his father was offered an inheritable earldom when marrying Princess Anne, he refused.

Savannah Phillips

Born in 2010, Savannah Phillips is the older daughter of Peter and Autumn Phillips. She is the Queen’s first great-grandchild.

Isla Phillips

Born in 2012, Isla is the second and youngest of Peter and Autumn Phillips’ daughters. She is 20th in line to the throne.

Zara Tindall

Born in 1981, Princess Anne's daughter, Zara Tindall, also lacks a royal title due to being descended from the female line. Zara married Mike Tindall in 2011 and the couple's first child was born in 2014. She had an extremely successful riding career and even won a silver medal at the 2012 Olympics in London.

Mia Grace Tindall

Born in 2014, Zara and Mike Tindall’s first child was born in January 2014. She is 22nd in line to the throne.

Lena Elizabeth Tindall

Born in 2018, the Tindall family’s second child — and Queen Elizabeth’s seventh great-grandchild — was born on June 18, 2018. Like several of the other royal children, Lena Elizabeth’s name is an homage to her great-grandmother.

Lucas Tindall

Born in 2021, Zara and Mike’s son and youngest child was born on March 21, 2021. He is 24th in line to the throne.

David Armstrong-Jones, 2nd Earl of Snowdon

Born in 1961, known widely as David Linley, the 2nd Earl of Snowdon is 25th in the line of succession and the first to not be a descendant of Queen Elizabeth. The Earl married Serena Alleyne Stanhope in 1993 and the two had two children. He is the son of the Queen’s sister, Princess Margaret, and Antony Armstrong-Jones.

Charles Armstrong-Jones, Viscount Linley

Born in 1999, the son of the 2nd Earl of Snowdon and Serena Stanhope. He is the Queen’s grandnephew and 26th in line for the throne. He is currently studying Product Design Engineering at Loughborough University.

Lady Margarita Armstrong-Jones

Born in 2002, Armstrong-Jones’ and Stanhope’s youngest child, Lady Margarita follows just behind her brother in the line of succession. She is currently a student at Oxford Brookes University.

Lady Sarah Chatto

Born in 1964, Lady Sarah Chatto is the only daughter of Princess Margaret and is Prince Harry’s godmother. At her birth, she was seventh in the line of succession to the throne. She married Daniel Chatto in 1994, and the couple has two sons. She works as a painter and is the Vice-President of the Royal Ballet.

Samuel Chatto

Born in 1996, Lady Sarah and Daniel Chattos’ oldest son is 29th in the line of succession. He attended the University of Edinburgh.

Arthur Chatto

Born in 1999 ,Arthur Chatto is 30th in line for the throne and served as a page of honor to the Queen from 2009 to 2015. Like his brother, he attended the University of Edinburgh.
